The motto for Urban Solutions, Inc. is, “Solving Tomorrow’s Problems Today” and the outstanding students receiving the 2016 scholarships and book awards will fulfill this goal. Awards were given at the Detroit Athletic Club on June 24th and the guest speaker, De’Andre Wright our successful 2003 scholarship recipient gave the students a powerful message asking them to make choices today that will ensure their success tomorrow.
This year’s students were not only excited about their careers, but they also expressed the desire to return to their community and play it forward by reaching back to help others. After an exhausting look at this year’s applications and interviews, ten $1000.00 scholarship and nine $500.00 book awards were given to high school seniors entering college this fall.
This year, for the first time, four college students were awarded book awards. All too often students run into financial difficulties after a year or two of college. Some of our sponsors recognize the importance of helping these students as well.
